Executed in late spring 2009, I consider this a breakthrough piece, where all the different formal ideas I had been working with in the mixed media explorations of 2007-2008 achieved a sort of perfection and, purged of color, opened a new door for me...the work is about relationships between form and meaning, movement and intention, truth and reality, surface and image, subject and object...art is visual philosophy. It is about questions. I wanted to create large paintings that had the immediacy and freshness of a page from my sketchbook...
