It gives long drives on lonely highways under vast skies; seeing ghosts ranged across the landscape: hunters, farmers, missionaries, cowboys, steelworkers, prospectors. All searchers; Dreamers, all; feeling the tectonic plates move underneath you, using plants and sun and water and air to sustain your imagination and your life a while yet. 

It came from driving to and fro, searching for home, safe harbor in the dusk, hearing all their stories on the wind.

Spanish and Chumash and Surfer Bro and Pidgin, the chatter in the static, tuning the radio dial around and around, searching, searching, searching...for what, we do not know... 

Meaning?

Connection?

A sense of belonging, of Home...?

Adventure?

Riches?

Enlightenment?

The loneliness in the grandeur can be hallucinatory, like the heat in summer.

The tacos are often magnificent.

This piece was hand-made in the Roots-Gallery & Design Co. location in Los Osos in 2019.

The surface is cradled 5/16" FSC Certified Sustainably Harvested maple ply, and the sidewalls are made from 3/4" of the same grade and species. 

The total depth is roughly 1", and the piece comes with hanging hardware--eye-hooks and wire--installed. It hangs simply from a single attachment point on the wall. 

The sides of the piece are painted-out with lacquer and oil paint and are a carefully considered element of the composition.
