Executed in late spring 2009, I consider this a breakthrough piece, where all the different formal ideas I had been working with in the mixed media explorations of 2007-2008 achieved a sort of perfection and, purged of color, opened a new door for me...the work is about relationships between form and meaning, movement and intention, truth and reality, surface and image, subject and is visual philosophy. It is about questions. I wanted to create large paintings that had the immediacy and freshness of a page from my sketchbook...
