2008-2013: urban organic
Spring, 2010;
mixed media on raw plywood panels.
Continuing my utilization of re-claimed materials that began when I moved to Oakland in 2006, this work is a mediation on nature, social constructions of "the natural", pattern, incidence, memory, consciousness, growth and decay. I began sourcing botanical and figurative images to integrate into the abstract spaces I had developed in my mixed media thought experiments of the previous few years. Interested in synthesizing opposites into new wholes, I was trying make the surfaces of the pictures, and the images in the pictures, both malleable and solid, looking glasses into another world that is in fact our own, as a memory constructs the self, and disappears without it...or does it?
